For Nothing Bundt Cakes
Context
Nothing Bundt Cakes engaged with Photon to help them design a full fundraising platform that would connect franchised bakers, fundraisers and the corporate organization.

The expectation was that Photon would deliver a comprehensive system architecture with 3 primary user flows for the 3 different channels and user types.
​
However, the final statement of work agreed upon only included one flow for one channel/user type.
This misalignment was only uncovered during our initial kickoff meeting which started the project on a very bad note.
Challenge
Design a fundraising platform spanning multiple personas and tools.
Conduct user research, architect a comprehensive platform and deliver a proof-of-concept prototype for one user flow - in the span of 6 weeks.
Goal
Regain our clients' trust by delivering above and beyond the statement of work

While my output were design deliverables, my achievement was building trust and credibbility to turn a strained engagement into a long-term relationship.
THE PROCESS

Rebuilding Trust with user research
Working alongside a user research specialist, we conducted:

6 interviews with bakery owners

A 15-owner deep dive survey

A lightweight 310-response franchise-wide survey
By including the Nothing Bundt Cakes team throughout the user research process, we provided transparency that allowed us to better align their expectations with what we heard from users.

Hero flow wireframes for both desktop and mobile
The wireframe stage allowed us to quickly settle on the overall design and interaction patterns of the primary feature. We then iterated and added secondary function to ensure that all the information architecture elements were available.

UI design & usability prototype
We applied the Nothin Bundt Cake brand guidelines and visual language to the wireframes and created a working prototype that we used to run our usability study.

Cementing our credibility by designing the full system architecture
Although it was not possible for us to deliver hero flows for all the persona and use cases, we were able to deliver the full system architecture providing a solid base for the next engagement.
